| RACE COMMITTEE TO HOST CONFERENCE CALL TO TEACH TIME-BASED RACING |
| REGISTER TO RECEIVE ADVANCED MATERIALS
by Chip Mann
The ILYA is steeped in tradition, we all know that. But, sometimes even we can change with the "times". At the ILYA Board Meeting in February the board voted to delete section 12.13 Length of Race from our by-laws. This section stated the minimum length of a race stated in statute miles for each of our classes. This section also stated the time limit that a race needed to be completed in. Although we still have a time limit on races which is different from section 12.13, we no longer have a minimum distance. Thanks
to the leadership of Terry Bischoff with several others helping, we are
now using "Time Based Sailing" for all ILYA events. Since many of our clubs follow the rules and guidelines of the ILYA, many of our clubs will be doing the same.
The next Scowslants will contain an article describing the system. The
ILYA RC Committee will be hosting a "call-in" conference call to
further discuss the process. This call in will be open to all ILYA race officers and all local club race officers. We would like everyone interested in participating in this call-in to RSVP to myself, Chip Mann email address: chip2043@gmail.com so
that we know who will be on the call-in and so that we can get you some
materials ahead of time to make the experience worthwhile. The call will be Tuesday, May 6th at 7:00 p.m. CDT. Please let me know you are calling in and I will get you the call in information. |

ILYA YOUTH CHAMPS - MENDOTA - OFFERS DORM HOUSING - DEADLINE MAY 15TH |
|
Collegiate "feel" expanded
Thanks to the UW-Madison Hoofers, the '08
ILYA Youth Champs will truly be a collegiate experience. The Lakeshore
Dorm system will house our pre-registered sailors for the value price
of $15. The immediate caveat is a required 20 reservations registered
with the University by May 15th. There will be a female and male
chaperone in the dorm. The event falls on one of many warm, inviting
Madison weekends on the lake near the Union. Boats and cars will be
stored at the Hoofers site and near the dorm. A short five-minute walk
down the Lakeshore will bring the competitors to the homebase Hoofers
site near Memorial Union.
The Hoofers are excited about this opportunity as it provides a
practice run for the 2010 Collegiate Nationals at UW-Madison where the
nation's best will meet. This is our first recent use of the
University's dorm system for housing.

| GO FOR THE GOLD GALA - June 7, 2008 |
| | Bill and Susie Allen, Gloria and Buddy Melges, and Bill and Ellen Bentson Invite You
Join
many of the ILYA's staunchest supporters (and they just happen to be
GOLD medalists) in bidding Sally Barkow and John Ruf farewell as they
leave for Qingdao, China for the Olympics. Pewaukee, Pine and the ILYA
invite the first 500 of you to a spectacular gala featuring food
stations, auction items and the Piles of Rhythm. On nearly every I-94
lake a group of Inland sailors has joined together to offer dinner
cruises as auction items. A roundtrip pair of tickets from Midwest
Airlines will take you on a trip if you are the highest bidder.
Baird Company has signed on as the major sponsor to allow your dollars
to go directly to the Olympians. Food stations again manned by sailors
or local businesses will provide you with a casual atmosphere as you
view the auction items. Look for an invitation in the mail if you are
an ILYA member or on the ILYA website. This is a family affair. Mark
your calendars. |

| TRAP REGISTRATION OPEN TODAY |
| Pine Lake Changes Venue
The
X boat TRAP Registration opens on April 15th this year. You can find
the registration forms for both Jr. and Sr. fleets at the Pine Lake
website at www.plyc.net.
2007
was a record year for the TRAP. The Juinor fleet was full and the
Senior fleet only had a few spots open. PLEASE get the information
out to your sailors as soon as possible. We DID have disappointed
sailors last year. Make sure they are not from your school. The
closing date of June 1st will be strictly adhered to.
Please
also note the change of venue. Launching will be at the public launch
on Hwy K as before, but headquarters and parking will be at the south
end of the lake off Hwy 83 on Treasure Island Dr.
Thank you everyone for your cooperation in getting this out to your fleet.
