| RUF NAMED MILWAUKEE COMMUNITY SAILING CENTER'S SAILOR OF THE YEAR |
| |
The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center
(MCSC) has selected another of Wisconsin's and the nation's top sailors
as the "Sailor of the Year", Pewaukee, Wisconsin native, John Ruf. After a 1998 automobile accident left John paralyzed, he continued his life long passion of sailing. In a specially designed boat, that allows him to sail without using his legs he competes in events nationally and worldwide. John will be representing the United States in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China. John
Ruf's life long commitment to sailing, perseverance and courage make
him an outstanding choice for this year's Sailor of the Year award.
The
Sailor Of The Year Award will be presented at the 14th annual Milwaukee
Community Sailing Center's Sailor's Ball on Saturday March 1, 2008 at
the Italian Community Center, 631 East Chicago Street on Milwaukee's
Lakefront.
For
Sailor's ball ticket information or information about the Milwaukee
Community Sailing Center's programs please call the: Milwaukee

| DAVE PERRY ON RULES IN MILWAUKEE |
| | Saturday, February 16th
fom North U
"You can't play the game if you don't know the rules.
Whether
you are a new racer or a salty dog, the North U. Rules and Tactics
Seminar will send you home with a new understanding of the racing rules.
The
North U. Rules & Tactics Seminar teaches the rules and their
underlying principles. You'll see how the rules work and understand how
to resolve the conflicts and transitions between the rules as positions
change. We'll go all the way around the course, teaching the rules in
the way you use them - not by the numbers, but through situations on
each leg of the course. You will learn to recognize situations and
understand which rules apply.
But that is not all. The rules
shape and control tactics. The North U. Rules & Tactics Seminar
teaches how to position your boat to make use of the rules. You learn
positions that allow you to control the game, and how to avoid
positions that leave you vulnerable to attack. You'll also learn the
critical difference between right of way and control."
For more info, click here.
Dave was our keynote speaker at last year's Winter Inland. He is
knowledgeable but, most importantly, humorous and entertaining. He
explains it simply with a jovial twist. It will be a day of relaxed
learning. South Shore, one of the area's loveliest clubs hosts this
event. With fulltime staff, the amenities here are exceptional all
week. If you haven't visited South Shore, go enjoy Lake Michigan while
learning from the best. |

| WINTER INLAND PLEA FROM TREASURER |
| | Sponsorship Opportunity
The
ILYA Winter Inland is coming up. This is the event where the
Association offers more educational and networking opportunities to its
members that at any other time of the year. This is when we plan and
create all the summer activities we all enjoy. We offer fleet meetings
for all of our classes, sessions on junior and youth sailing, race
officer training, and go fast sessions. We have scheduled opportunities
for our local clubs to learn how to grow and be more successful. We
have our annual delegates meeting and, of course, our lunch with a
renown speaker and, this year, six deserving sailors will be inducted
into the ILYA Hall of Fame.
The
ILYA wants to continue to offer these types of programs to our
membership. Our challenge is that the $30.00 fee for this event only
covers about 50% of the cost of this event. We presently have one
anonymous donor to help defray some of the additional costs of this
event. We need more help! If you would like to become a sponsor of the
Winter Inland please contact Jim Smith at scowslants@aol.com or 262-203-7721.
