Beulah C Challenge - Can YOU meet the challenge?
The Lake Beulah C Fleet has issued a challenge to all sailors: come
try to beat us on our own lake, on and off the water. We will feature 5-7
high-quality, Beulah-challenging races. For those of you who have never
sailed on Beulah, you will know when you get here what the challenges
are at first glance.
This is an all-inclusive regatta, so you and your crew can sail,
have lunch both days, dinner on Saturday night, enjoy a keg of beer,
get free raffle tickets (more if you register early), and get free
housing (contact Brian Brickler: bbrickler@boilersales.com), all for $65! Off the water (weather permitting) will feature baggo, volleyball, beer pong, and more! This is a regatta for ALL SAILORS.
A new feature at this regatta is a first-year skippers
division, open to anyone going to their first C regatta in 2007. Sailed
for a while on your lake but never steered a regatta? First
year sailing a C scow? Your husband or father isn't using the boat this
weekend? All good reasons to come to Beulah September 22-23. |

| C Blue Chip |
| | Barkow Does it Again
It
was a Barkow sweep but not what you think. Augie had competition from
distant cousin Fred who won the second of two races at the C Blue Chip.
Augie won the first race on Sunday - no Saturday completed races. Augie
Barkow beat Zack and Vicki Clayton for the title with Fred Barkow with
undoubtedly proud dad as crew in third. The Cedar boats were dominant:
four in the top ten: Fred Barkow in 3rd, Jim Tews 4th, Ed Eckert 5th
and Tom Eckert 10th.
Each participant was presented with a history of the event
- Jerry Huse has participated in the most Blue Chips - 31, Mark Prange (who seems a lot older with this new info) - 30
- Most
consecutive Blue Chips - Jerry Huse - 30; Wally Schmidt at 26 but Kent
Haeger is still in the running with the oldest current record going at
25. No one else is even close now to Haeger. Tom Eckert is now on 10.
- Bill Allen, Gordy Bowers and Kent Haeger have won this event four times. But have Bill and Gordy done the bar walk? Kent has.
- Only
three women have been invited other than in a mystery guest role: Barb
Johnson, Laurie Morrissey and, this year, Anne Porter Muller.
Check the ILYA website later this week for results. |
