Sunny Driscoll and Aaron Lynn named ILYA Champs
|
|
article by Rick Trester
Can you imagine the joy in Sawyerville with an ILYA win for the sisters? Today the highly competitive fleet came out to sail the last two races of their championship. Paul Reinicke, Maggie Walsh and Sunny Driscoll started the day with only one point separating them. The morning brought us four to six mile per hour winds from the East. This set-up the races to be sailed across the short length of the lake in the opposite direction from yesterday. Since we were sailing two back to back races we again had a downwind finish for the first race. Our three leaders stayed pretty close to each other in the first race. Jan Gill broke away from these three to win the race. Sunny ended up second with Maggie third and Paul fourth. This maintained the lead for Sunny and Cindy Duchow. The last race was very similar to race number five with the three leaders keeping a close eye on each other. In this race Sunny and Cindy jumped out to an early lead with Paul and Maggie further back. After leading in many of the races without winning Sunny put this race and the regatta away. Jack Zimmerschied and Fred Weber had the best races of their regattas by finishing second and third. This was the first ILYA championship for the sister act of Sunny Driscoll and Cindy Duchow. They have been sailing together in Inland events since they were kids. Paul Reinicke and Helen Rehberger ended up second and Maggie Walsh and Terry Isabell were third. Jan Gill was the top Master and Heidi Vollmar won the top rookie. 1 V-7 Sunny Driscoll 12 2 V-151 Paul Reinicke 17 3 V-76 Maggie Walsh 19 4 WL-111 Jan Gill 21 5 V-44 Fred Weber 38 6 LH-117 Jack Zimmerschied 39

Aaron Lynn from Oshkosh stayed atop the leader board with past ILYA champ Stefan Schmidt in second. Lynn had a commanding 10-point lead. Last race success came to Steve Catlin with a bullet to end the regatta. Results:

| BARKOW AND NIEDZIELA WIN NATIONAL C TITLE |
|
Chris Andert nor Pewaukee have the results posted so click here later today for the full posting. Peter Keck retained the "first loser" position. The remaining results had a change due to the addition of the throwout race. Barkow had a commanding lead and did not have to sail the final race on Sunday so Bloody Marys all around.
Thanks to regatta chair Nancy Niedziela and her Pewaukee crew. PRO Chip Mann deserves a round of applause with shifty, challenging wind conditions.

| GEORGE DORN MC FATHER'S DAY REGATTA |
|
| The MC's got in a final race with a delayed start due to light air to conclude the 24th annual regatta. Youngster Colin Smith was named champion with David Porter nipping at his toes. Porter and Bruce Gallagher tied with Porter taking the tie breaker. Perennial favorite Tim Fredman was fourth and Kevin Neal fifth.
Thanks to regatta chairs Dorns, Wills and Riedls for great food and awards (quite humorous with the tag team of Doug Dorn and Hardy Will) and PRO Nan Norris.
